We are excited about our latest project,
an hour long video featuring several Sudbury model schools. In addition to the full
length show, we will also provide each participating school with a shorter (10 to 15
minute) piece just on their school for their own use.
The project will feature the atmosphere
and campus of each participating school, and will include interviews with staff and
enrollees. We will focus on those aspects of each school which the school considers
most important, within the overarching themes of the Sudbury model: freedom, democracy,
respect and personal responsibility.
This project is being produced by Mary
Lou Cohn, through her company Nigglypook Productions. Mary Lou is mother to four
boys who attend Sudbury Valley School and is a founding member of SERN. Mary Lou has
been working in video for several years, and her credits include political action videos,
creative children's television and GNN, the Good News Network.
We hope to use this video as a public
relations and marketing tool for the schools involved as well as for start-up groups and
SERN. It will also facilitate further understanding of the model for the general
population by public access broadcasting and airing on any other interested outlets.
SERN will provide each participating
school with either digital master copies of both videos (with permission to use these
masters to make VHS copies) or with VHS copies at cost, in order to ensure that copies are
of the highest possible quality.
Taping was completed at the Chicago
Sudbury School and Greenwood Sudbury School in May 2001, at Fairhaven School in December
2001 and at Evergreen Sudbury School in March 2002. We expect to have the project
completed in 2002. We will keep you posted!
